Ebro Delta: the Ebro Delta (Delta de L’Ebre) is a nature reserve with salt flats, rice fields and great fishing. You can catch a boat along the river to get a real sense of the beauty of this unique place.
Birdwatching: the Ebro Delta is one of the most important aquatic habitats of the western Mediterranean, and birds make up the most striking aspect of the wildlife. At any given time there will be between 50,000 and 100,000 individuals in residence belonging to three hundred species, 60% of the total number found in Europe. You can even see flamingos here.
Boat Trips: there are various boats and cruises that go up and down the coast between Tarragona in the north and L’Ampolla in the south. Many of them stop at L’Ametlla. It is lovely to see the coves from the sea so this can make a really good trip.
Markets: many of the local towns have weekly markets which are worth a visit. Market days are usually as follows: Cambrils – Wednesday; Ametlla de Mar – Thursday, Tarragona – Thursday, Hospitalet de l’Infant – Sunday
PortAventura: one of Europe’s largest theme parks is only a 30 minute drive from the villa. It has rides that cater for all ages – gentle carousels for the babies and huge roller coasters for the more adventurous. There are processions with favourite Universal Studios characters such as Pink Panther, Popeye and Woody Woodpecker. www.portaventura.es
Costa Caribe: is next door to Port Aventura and is a huge water park. There are various deals available on tickets that combine visits to both parks.
Aquopolis: situated in La Pineda, a 30 minute drive from the villa this is another superb water park.
There is a toddler area for babies and small children as well as bigger flumes and slides for all ages. They have a dolphin show twice a day and you can meet the sea lions.
Flower Carpet Fiesta
Spain is justly famous for its fiestas which occur through out the year. It’s worth checking to see if there is a fiesta on during your stay.
Other activities and sports
The area has lots of activities for all the family from touring vineyards and wine tasting to Quad biking. Here are a few ideas:
Tours: explore the wine routes and enjoy guided tours of Priorat, Montsant and Penedés and the wines of the famous Cava region such as Freixenet or take a trip around the historic and fascinating old monasteries.
Snorkelling, diving, windsurfing and kayaking: along the coast you can try your hand at numerous water sports like Windsurfing and Canoeing.
Outdoor activities: you can enjoy the thrills of Quad Biking & Mountain Bike Routes, Trekking, Horse Riding, Orienteering and Mountain Climbing.
